Toretore Ichiba Seafood Market in Wakayama Prefecture Japan







Toretore ichiba is very popular fish market in Wakayama prefecture Japan. For those people that love seafood such as maguro (Tuna), variety of shell fish, lobster, and crabs, you're in the right place. The fish market adjoining area has huge barbecue terrace with row upon row of table with barbecue pit that you can rent for small fee. Unlike most seafood restaurant in Kansai region, toretore offer very unique experience for tourist to hop inside fish market and grab those seafood delicacy of their choice and can just walk out to the adjoining terrace to cook their own meal. 

Like most Japanese tourist area, there are a lot souvenir vendor inside that sell local specialty like preserved plum, and mikan juice (Tangerine). You can easily spend good 2-3 hours inside by simply exploring all the vendors.

For those that come with children, there is very popular amusement park, safari, and water world combine just 10 minutes away from the market. The main features of the safari side is panda exhibition and you can also rent golf cart to drive inside the safari park. The water world part has several dolphin and orca show throughout the day.

To get there by public transportation; Take the Meiko bus from JR Shirahama station and get off at "toretore ichiba mae."

If you have EU driver license, you can rent car in Japan. To get there by car; From the Nanki Tanabe Interchange on the Hanwa expressway, take national route 42 and prefectural road 33 for approximately 11km.
